Vietnam sees stable socioeconomic development in H1

Vietnam has so far this year gained fairly good and stable socioeconomic development, with an estimated GDP growth of 6.28 percent in the first half, the country's General Statistics Office said Friday. Vietnam's GDP is estimated to have grown 6.28 percent in the first half of this year against the same period last year, including growth rates of 6.08 percent in the first quarter and 6. 44 percent in the second quarter. Of the GDP growth of 6.28 percent, 0.42 percent came from agriculture, forestry and seafood sector, 2.98 percent from industry and construction sector, 2.22 percent from service sector, and 0.66 percent from taxes on products (excluding subsidies), said the office.

Warren Buffett buys $500m stake in Insurance Australia Group

The world’s most renowned investor will take a 20% share of IAG premiums and claims for 10 years as he eyes Asia’s growing insurance market. Warren Buffett, the world’s most revered investor, is buying a $A500m ($US388m) stake in Insurance Australia Group as he targets a share of the growing Asian insurance market. The deal will his Berkshire Hathaway group receive a 20% share of IAG’s gross written premium and pay 20% of its claims for the next decade. IAG, one of Australia’s biggest companies, has also agreed to buy Berkshire’s local personal and small and medium enterprise insurance businesses. Berkshire will in turn buy the rights to IAG’s large-corporate property and liability insurance business in Australia.
